Declaration of Concerns
We the children and youngsters with disabilities must be regarded as children with capabilities and functional capacities;
We declare that we have:
- the right to be born, and live in peace and with dignity in a family and community;
- the right to be education with accessibility provisions of schools, and special education or inclusion in regular classes whenever possible;
- the right to be loved unconditionally by the family and accepted as any other siblings;
- the right to be heard in the expression of our ideas and needs for our development;
- the right to access medical services for health and rehabilitation;
- the right to have friends, to play in an accessible place and be happy;
- the right to be respected by other people as a person;
- the right to be protected against abuse, exploitation and discrimination;
- the right to exact protection from government, community and family;
- the right to be involved in family and community activities.
Today, this 15th day of March 2006, we fully declare that all these inherent rights must be respected.
This is a document signed and executed by children and youth with disabilities who participated during the National Convention on the Fundamental Rights of Children and Youngsters with Disabilities held at Bayview Park Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, March 13-15, 2006.
