REACHING OUT THE LESS-FORTUNATE THROUGH ISABELA SCHOOL
FOR THE DEAF
The Isabela School
for the Deaf requires for more than opening a special
classroom in a community. It provides encourage action
in all sectors of community development community life.
These actions includes:
1. Education at
all levels in the community.
2. Access to
stores and public facilities.
3. Work in the
community.
4. Social
relationships with hearing as well as deaf persons.
5. Full
acceptance by the family and the hearing community.
Many severely deaf
people do not see themselves as disabled. Their primary
challenge is the inability to speak and hear. In an
ideal world, every one would speak with their hands,
minimizing functional deafness. In reality, the deaf
live in a SEPARATE WORLD.
The greatest
community resource to build upon is that the deaf world
or the community itself, along the hearing friends and
relatives of the deaf. A deaf community will exist
everywhere so long as two or more deaf people bond
together for language and identity.
