WDFP Observer 18th Foundation Day

The Wheelchair and Disabled Foundation for the Philippines, Inc. (WDFP) celebrated its 18th Foundation Day last September 12, 1993 with a thanksgiving Mass at 8:00a.m., held at the Caritas Auditorium and officiated by Msgr. Francisco Tantoco, who represented His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin.

After the Mass, breakfast was served which was followed by a short program during which plaques of appreciation were awarded by the association to individuals, agencies, and corporations that have given valuable and generous financial or technical assistance to WDFP during the past 18 years.

Dr. Alejandro Roces, former Secretary of Education and member of the WDFP Advisory Board, was the guest speaker. Molses S. Diaz, WDFP President presented the president’s report which was read by Irene Angiwan , while Gonzalo C. Goquiolay, WDFP Board Chairman delivered the closing remarks. Mrs. Conchita Melchor-Hechanova, WDFP Executive Director and master of ceremonies introduced the guest speaker.

Wheelers On The Go’ Opened at SM Megamall

Wheelchair On The Go’ is the most recent project of Wheelchair and Disabled Foundation for the Philippines, Inc, (WDFP), which was launched last July 17,1993 at the SM Megamall at EDSA, Mandaluyong to provide wheelchair service handicap, senior citizens and those who are too tired to walk around the vast shopping complex.

Ms.Melanie Marquez, former Miss International assisted by Dr. Nonoy Zuniga, NCWDP Executive Director, and Mrs. Conchite Melchor-Hechanova, WDFP Executive Director, cut the ceremonial ribbon. Ms. Nida Blanca a well-known movie actressk, among others graced the occasion.

A service-oriented project.’Wheelers On The Go’ is the first of its kind to be introduction in Metro Manila. For a nominal rental fee of fify pesos per hour for a wheelchair and a volunteer to push it, the customer is helping WDFP send a disabled student to college.

Highlights of the launching was a wheelchair parade for about 30 paraplegic who wheeled around the ground floor of the shopping mall. Television and newspaper cameramen had a field day shooting pictures to cover the launching.
