(Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa Cotabato City-KAMCC) C/o Hotel Castro, Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City CDA Registration Number 3553 KE
Background:
KAMCC Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KAMCCMPC) is a cooperative of Persons With Disability (PWD) binded together for a common goal – to uplift the socio economic condition and achieve independent living of PWDs at the grassroots level.
KAMCCMPC was registered in the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) on August 17, 1999 duly organized and managed by PWDs with 35 members. Its main line of business is school chair production and canteen.
At present KAMCC have 35 members, 5 women and 30 men ranging from 18-50 years old. KAMCC members are composed of Christians and Muslims whoa re strongly united in efforts of improving the lives of person with disabilities. Most of the members went through formal schooling. Eleven went to Elementary school, three (3) finished high school and 11 others finished their college degrees. The rest hardly went to school or did not have formal schooling at all.
Membership has various disabilities. Most of those who had polio when they were children are in wheelchairs while others can walk but are limping. Others are deaf or have cerebral palsy. Some are dwarfs while others are amputees because they are victims of the war in Mindanao, lacking either feet or arms.
KAMCC provides regular employment mainly through school chair making. Other are helped to find jobs somewhere else or are provided with loan assistance so they can set up small-scale buy and sell projects. When they or their family members got sick, the cooperative facilitates referrals to doctors or clinics.
Aside from Economic assistance, we also have a counseling and education program. Through counseling, new members are assisted in accepting their disabilities or in “feeling at home” with their disabilities. Usually, when they have reached this age of acceptance, they are in the better position to maximize their capacities and potentials for their own benefit, for their loved ones and for the cooperative. On the other hand, education program of the cooperative is focused in promoting the positive values of cooperativism. Our members are active because they are confident that our cooperative is for the benefit of all. KAMCC also advocates for the upholding and promoting the cause of PWDs.
Among the problems of the cooperative is the lack of funds for our capitalization. This is specially since the DepEd only pays the chairs upon delivery. We badly need to develop other livelihood projects in between our chair-making to sustain our income-generation. KAMCC MPC is looking into the possibility of other projects in relation to information technology, food and jewelry and making pieces of furniture for walk-in buyers attempting our best to devise continuous work for our members.
Our cooperative dreams to have a long-range employment for its members. We also want to set up other types of businesses to ensure its sustainability. This way, we will be in the position to expand our membership among other PWDs in Cotabato City and in other nearby areas.
The objectives of our cooperative are as follows: (1) To encourage thrift and savings mobilization among the members; (2) To create funds in order to grant loans for productive and providential purposes to its members; (3) To provide goods and services and other requirements to the members; (4) To undertake agricultural and / or industrial production purposes; (5) To engage in the supply of production inputs to member/non-members and market their products; (6) To engage in lending and livelihood projects; (7) To do any related activity for the members’ self government, improve social and/or economic well-being under a truly just democratic society
